The Inspiring Women Awards – Redcar & Cleveland is back and bigger than ever!
The annual award ceremony for Redcar & Cleveland’s most inspiring she-roes returns in 2023 and nominations are now open for people to show their appreciation for local heroes who have made a difference in the community.
This will be the 7th year for the awards which have already become a beacon for women of all walks of life to be celebrated for their achievements.
The awards were started by Anna Turley in 2014 and have grown each year to become a bigger and better celebration of the fantastic women in Redcar & Cleveland. Anna will return to co-host the award ceremony in 2023 alongside Karen King.
Inspiring Women Shadowing Programme
Alongside the awards, the Inspiring Women project runs the shadowing programme in partnership with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council. This programme sees young women from year 9 and 10 across the region invited to have a shadowing day with a local business woman.
The young women are invited to submit applications and choose which business woman will best help them to learn more about a certain industry or area of employment.
More and more local businesses get involved every year. The programme has been organised and co-ordinated by Amanda Olvanhill, head of employability for Redcar & Cleveland, since 2020.
Local radio legend Julie Donaldson, of Zetland FM, hosted the award ceremony and served on the steering group. After Julie’s death in 2020, the Volunteer Award which was previously won by Julie, was renamed in her honour.
The awards have helped many local organisations to gain more recognition, including the Rubies Charity who won in 2017 and went on to build on their stellar work, including being lucky enough to have Steph McGovern come on board as their charity patron .
